NAFA Guidelines: Firing Range and Molecular Filtration

Randy Brannen, CAFS, NCT II, Director of Sales and Business Development
Quality Filters, Inc.

Paula Levasseur, CAFS, Owner/Consultant
LMF Services LLC

Many international HVAC/R organizations promulgate standards for the air filtration industry, and many of these standards become part of a national building code. For the most part, these codes dictate “minimum standards” that must be met to be in compliance with the code. NAFA publishes a series of air filtration best practice guidelines based on these codes, but that go further to recommend and incorporate the “highest level of air filtration standards” for specific applications.

In this session, the lead author of the Firing Range Guidelines, Randy Brannen, and the lead author of the Molecular Filtration Guidelines, Paula Levasseur, will review the information in these important documents.

Clearing the Air for Indoor Plant Environments

Nadia Sabeh, PhD, PE, LEED AP

Growing crops indoors allows farmers to control many of the variables of production, including water, nutrients, lighting, and climate. Keeping the air free and clear of contaminants also improves crop quality and yield, and helps to ensure consumer and food safety. Many indoor farmers use a combination of air filters, air purification systems, and good sanitation practices to avoid and eliminate mold spores, bacteria, VOCs, chemicals, and other potential sources of contamination in their facilities. In this presentation, Dr. Sabeh will review the efficacy and necessity of using various technologies that are commonly used and sometimes misused in indoor plant environments, including cannabis.
