The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is an organization dedicated to producing code-intended standards and guidelines for the HVAC&R Industry. Meeting two times per year, over 95 ASHRAE Technical Committees (TC) review practices and write standards to dictate protocols for these industries. ASHRAE standards are usually incorporated into building codes.
NAFA has a voting membership on ASHRAE Technical Committee 2.4 (TC 2.4), Particulate Air Contaminants and Particulate Equipment Removal. This is a Technical Committee within ASHRAE and thus the committee falls under their rules and guidance.
TC 2.4 Scope
TC 2.4 is concerned with the nature of particulate contaminants, both solid and liquid; the measurement of their properties; their effects on living things and materials; both solid and liquid; the means of removing unwanted particulate contaminants from gases; and the evaluation of the effectiveness, energy usage, and the economy of such purification equipment.
For both ordinary and extraordinary situations including hostile acts the Technical Committee is concerned with the effects of particulate contaminants on the quality of air supplied to and exhausted from enclosed spaces, and with the sources of particulate contamination pollution within such spaces. The scope of TC 2.4 does not include purely physiological or toxicological aspects of particulate pollution.
For more information about the activities of TC 2.4, see our ASHRAE Technical Committee 2.4 section, sponsored by NAFA.
The National Air Filtration Association (NAFA) is a dynamic, non-profit trade association. NAFA members include air filter and component manufacturers, sales and service companies, and HVAC and indoor air quality professionals across the United States and in several foreign countries. NAFA is comprised of individuals and companies engaged in the sale, service and manufacture of the air filtration products.
NAFA’s certification and award programs include: NAFA Certified Air Filter Specialist (CAFS), NAFA Certified Technician Level I (NCT), NAFA Certified Technician Level II (NCT II), NAFA Clean Air Award Program, NAFA Product Certification, NAFA Scholarship Program
NAFA provides published guidelines and a library of air filtration articles of interest and importance to air filtration specialists world-wide. NAFA guidelines for commercial offices, higher education complexes, libraries, archives and museums are recognized as authoritative documents.
Join NAFA and associate with people who have a shared vision and purpose, gain valuable information from people who have problem-solving expertise and experience, get access to a library of information and resource materials, and continue your education with NAFA sponsored technical seminars and regional events.
